Nuala McGowan, founder of McGowan Accountancy Services recently attended a seminar entitled “Making a Will won’t kill you” at the Landmark Hotel, Carrick-on-Shannon, hosted by the North Connacht and Ulster Citizens Information Bureau.

In what proved to be a very informative evening the attendees were advised to:
* Open a joint account to ensure access to money, otherwise your bank  account will be frozen
* Appoint one or more executor(s) to your Will
* Parents of young children should appoint Guardians and trustees
* Make sure tax breaks are utilized in the best way ensuing that your bequests are maximized
* Review your will on a regular  basis to ensure any changes in your life are included in the Will
* Ensure you advise your closest and nearest where the Will is kept.
* No one is entitled to see your Will
* Accountants and Solicitors can be appointed as an Executor
*  Appoint a digital asset manger for your social media accounts
* Do  not do a homemade Will
*  A witness to a Will cannot be a beneficiary
